Instagram Direct is now Official!
Earlier today, Instagram announced the new Direct Photo Messaging feature called Instagram Direct. The system allows you to send photos to your friends directly through the app!! How cool is that?!?!? Some of you may have seen the App Update Needed message saying, “Someone sent you a photo or video. Please update your app to view it.”
***For Android Users*** If the app doesn’t automatically update,
1.Go into Play Store.
2. Type Instagram into Search
3. Once you click on IG (make sure it just says Instagram) hit UPDATE!
4. Get ready to play with the new feature!!!
(My apologies, I don’t have an I-phone, but I’m sure the process is similiar??? lol)
After updating the app, you will see that now, when you take pic or record a video you have the option to post for followers or send it direct.
Sending Direct Photo Messages on Instagram Direct
To use the new feature, take or choose a photo, like you normally would, and tap on the Direct tab. Here, you can send a photo or video with text to 1 or up-to 15 people at once, however, you can’t send text alone.
Once you send your photo or video, you will see that person’s photo is blurred and once they have viewed it their photo will light up and with a check-mark next to it. I think this is pretty cool feature to ensure the person received the message.
Another cool feature is if they “like” your message, the check mark will change into the Instagram “like” heart. All of your message conversations will be stored in your new inbox at all times. I haven’t had chance to really play with it to see if there is delete message option, but I would assume there is.
Receiving Direct Photo Messages on Instagram Direct
Now, when you receive a photo from Instagram Direct, you’ll see a badge with an alert that you have photo in your inbox. Simply tap on the inbox icon and you will see the photo/videos that has been sent to you. If others were included in the direct message, it will also show you who else has viewed and liked it etc.
Almost like Twitter, people you follow can send you photos and videos. If someone who you’re not following tries to send you a photo/video it will go into pending requests so you can choose to accept it or not. This a major plus to me because I don’t have to worry about getting random pics/videos from strangers.
Is Instagram Direct really all of that?
This may just be a game changer from the users point, but definitely from a business perspective. Vine, a social media platform used to share short videos with friends took a major hit when IG updated to allow users to do 15 second video clips. So if that is any indication, I would believe that this will be below-the-belt punch to SnapChat. However, I don’t feel bad because FaceBook offered the owner of SnapChat was offered $3billion to sell.
A few of my friends have already made references to how this new feature is going to be a welcomed addition for those up to no good lol. Sending a private pic to the side piece just got easier. Nevertheless, I think that it’s a good option if you want to share special photos and videos with friends & family.
Now if we can just get Instagram to allow clickable pictures or at least live links in photo posts, I’ll be the happiest girl in the world!!!
Hope you all found this helpful! And if you’re not already, follower me on IG @B3Diverse and I’ll follow you back
